Greetings
to you Vlasta, how is it going with the band and how do you feel?
Greetings to you and to SD readers as well! I am glad you asked, at the moment I feel a bit better than broken, which is great I think.
Your new album "Inconsistent World", where you have turned a bit more brutal, is out. What caused the style change to a more extreme form of death metal?
Yeah, the second album is out at last and I am very glad. We have definitely gone more extreme and faster. Why? Because extreme conditions demand extreme responses - simply said - hard life - heavy music. One is full of anger, problems and hate and it's no surprise this comes out of us.
Why
was the time gap between your debut and the new one so long?
The problems started to rise with musicians leaving and coming, who gave us hard times. This music is simply not for everybody. It is not easy because you have to sacrifice a lot and everybody thought joining Melancholy Pessimism would be a walk through the paradise, no toil just grace and money. But trust me it's on the contrary. That's why the second CD came out only now. You can't do it without people. But everything is ok now, so we can play, we want to play and release albums!
If my
memory doesn't fool me your debut was released on Metal Age and now you are on
Epidemie records, why the change?
We recorded a sample for labels in fall '98 and Martin's conditions were the best we were offered, so that's why we decided for Epidemie, that's all.
There are some, I'd say very light hearted, intermezzos between the songs on your new CD, I have also noticed that you try to lighten the atmosphere at your gigs by playing cover versions of folk or pop songs. Does it mean you think metal music doesn't always have to be serious or is it a tribute to your idols?
We take music for fun and an opportunity to forget about the disgusting life. It is necessary to make it a bit lively, to make fun of it. We take our live performances for a keg party where the fun is necessary and that's also why we put something on the CD. And we don't want to be any "scary" band anyway.
I was impressed by your intro, where we can hear the summer hit "Wonderful Life" accompanied with automatic guns shooting and blasts, does it mean that the world is not wonderful for everybody?
Definitely not! Unless one is blind, there is definitely something to be changed about this world. The lyrics on our new CD "Inconsistent World" are full of paradoxes, anger, depressions, wrath, and protests against various vices of this planet. I would kill just thinking about it!
I will tease you a bit more…
Your cover picture reminds me of a HC band more, I liked the cover album of your
debut much more with the crucified pig, it was very unique. Does your new cover
have anything to do with your new ideas concerning the world? Has the lyrical
side changed in any way?
Yeah, the religious topics are not included in the booklet anymore. I think there are many other problems people don't notice, that's also why we put the picture on our new CD cover. It depicts the rich and the poor, wealth and shit… take the homeless for instance, it is a fucking problem. I myself was very close to be homeless and I think many people sort of had the same experience. A year (or a day) passes and you may lose everything you ever had and nobody is gonna help you, you realise you have lost all your friends whose support you would need. I myself have many acquaintances but not a single friend. That's why our music, cover picture and lyrics are the way they are. People are disgusting! The world is cruel!
I can hear a HC voice in one song, who does it belong to?
I sang all vocals myself, except for the last song "Brisket", where we all sing including my daughter Sabina.
What's your opinion about the Czech and international metal scene, what do you like to listen to and what things have impressed you lately?
I love and listen to a whole range of music, mainly earlier releases like Judas Priest, I. Maiden, Cryptic Slaughter, Exploited, Dead Kennedys… Concerning the new production it will surely be Dying Fetus, new N. Death, Cryptopsy and the Czech Fleret. There are a lot of great outfits playing our style here, but I'm not going to name anybody, I don't like arse crawling and on the other hand I don't want anybody to get offended.
So the second album is out, what can we expect from Melancholy Pessimism now? I know you play live a lot, are you preparing any interesting shows?
So far we only have festivals like Nuclear Storm and Come and Die confirmed, maybe Obscene will do something, so perhaps there. But I can't tell you the exact dates, our manager takes care of it: Lukas Machacek, Palanek 3/44, Vyskov 68201, Czech Republic. He can also tell you more about our activities, sorry, but I don't really know much about it.
Do you have any sort of a special message for the metal fans world wide?
I am too small a man to give any sort of messages here, I will
just say: Don't be bitches, there is a lot of them. Help the weak and not the
strong ones, it will only pay. If not in this life, definitely in the next one,
eh eh. Enjoy yourselves!
